Adapting a home to cope with disability
This is a service we offer to our own older tenants but also to older and disabled home owners and private tenants in Harrow.
The cost of our labour is free. If you are not a tenant of HCHA, you will have to pay for the materials. The cost is usually modest.
Our service is paid for by the council so we can do any job if the budget comes in at under £1,000.
Typical jobs we are asked to do include:
fitting a grab rail to help you get up and down from a seated or lying position
covering a small flight of steps with a ramp
installing special taps that are very easy to grip.
Any work must first be checked by a trusted assessor.
To qualify you must be living in one of our sheltered housing schemes or in your own home or a flat you rent from a private landlord.
You must also be aged 60 or older and/or disabled.
How do I apply? To find out more call our aids and adaptations service on 020 8426 4995 or email info@hcha.org.uk
